friends
ever since we moved last june, i've been thinking alot about friends. i'm at a time in my life where having good friends is such a pivotal thing. if you don't have a good group of friends in highschool, well good luck. i don't have as many friends at school as i would like, and it's been really hard. i have a hard time relating to all the girls with their vera bradley backpacks, two hundred dollar boots, and j-crew tops. bascially, that means i can count on my hands how many good friends of the girl gender i have at school: 5. i have plenty of guy friends though, so i'm not really complaining. i don't mind not having to deal with any of the drama that comes with girls anyways. of course, the friends who i rely on most are all girls. but they're different, and each one of them was put into my life for a different reason. as a child, i had a friend who i did everything with, we went to the same school, went to church together, and our moms were best friends. we dressed alike, wore the same halloween costumes, and despite the small height difference, people were constantly asking as to whether or not we were twins. but then when i was eight we moved to utah. you think that you know who you are as an eight year old, but people change, and i after a few years i found it alot harder to relate to this person. now we're a different type of best friends, i know she's always got my back, and i love her so much. but we don't talk every day.
friend number two and i had an interesting beginning, it was my eighth grade year and i had just broken my foot. as i hobbled out to lunch on crutches, there sat a new girl, with the jonas brothers lunch box i had looked everywhere for. in my mind we were natural enemies, but soon we became great friends. being older, and living in the same state, our friendship continued to get stronger and stronger. we didn't fight ever. until i found out i was moving and everything temporarily fell apart. we both came to our senses though. she has been there for me through thick and thin, with all of my challenges and trials i've had in the past year i've gotten nothing but support from her. i love our crazy texts and our two am skype calls. i love the fact that no matter where she is, or what time it is, she's always a phone call away. i know her and i will be in eachothers lives for a long time, and i wouldn't have it any other way.
as you would imagine, friend number three and i haven't been close for very long, but in the short time i've had her in my life things have gotten so much better. i never thought we weould be as close as we are now. she seemed so much different than i am. but after talking for awhile we came to the realization that we listen to the same music, watch ALL of the same tv shows, and have similar goals in life. she's just as crazy and spontaneous as i am and i already feel like i can talk to her about anything. i can't wait to see what's to come of our friendship, and i can't wait to go to school with her AND HOPEFULLY play basketball together. we shall see about the basketball thing.
i'm not sure why i felt the need to tell you about my friends, it's mostly mumble jumble and word vomit. but hey- i had something on my mind and what better place to talk about it than on my blog nobody really reads :P
i'm so happy with where my life is right now, the friends i'm making, and who i've become. i'm just content. right now i'm currently anticipating spring break, and then utah. but i'm just trying to take things one week at a time. march is turning out to be a pretty great month so far, and i can't wait to see what else it has in store for me.
forever and always,
sarah leslie

oh what a month.
well, it's march. lovely. it was brought to my attention mostly by myself that i have neglected my blogging responsibilities brought on by myself. anyways, now i sit here with a month full of stories, trials, and life not knowing exactly how to put it all in to words. the truth is, i can't. it would probably just all come out as a mumble jumble of word vomit. which is why i'm tempted to resort to my usual routine of list making...but as of two seconds ago i decided i don't like making lists anymore. basically, school has been a crazy challenge, but i've been making friends more and more which almost sad because i'm switching schools again. of course, the one person i want to be friends with can't seem to pull away fast enough! *sigh* the confusing life of a teenage girl. i keep thinking about going to utah in april. honestly, words can't express how excited i am correctly. there are so many things i want to do when i go back, and suprisingly, so many friends i want to meet for the first time, along with old ones to hug and cry with. four more weeks till spring break, i can get to there at least. then nine days of school and it's time to board a plane back to where i practically grew up...even though if you ask me i've done a heck of a lot more growing up here in the past nine months than i did in the entire seven years i lived in utah. there is so much i want to say, but i can't seem to put it into words so i'll try again later. maybe.

gnomeo, doodle jump, and candy hearts.
Five bajillion years later, and i've finally decided to blog about valentines day. maybe. Valentines day was alot different this year, than last. this time last year we were trying to sell our house, and my mom was out of town looking for houses valentimes weekend leaving me stuck at Julia's house (not that i had a problem with that). if you want to read about last valentimes day, click here.
that's just the happy thoughts that were running through my head. truth is, february last year wasn't exactly a ball. i'm not asking for a pity party, because i've put that behing me...mostly. i just thought you should know i wasn't expecting much as far as valentimes day was concerned this year. i was wrong! I started my valentimes celebration with Briana last friday, when she came over and we goofed off, and laughed harder than we ever had. it's been good to have a friend here i can talk about everything with, and who knows what it's like to move. then Saturday we went to Gnomeo and Juliet. THE BEST MOVIE OF ALL TIME, OKAY!? OKAY. i have never spent two hours of my life before anticipating the ending of a gnome story. i'll be buying it for sure. my gnome seemed to enjoy it too! admitidly, multiple rounds of doodle jump were played throughout the day, as i attempted to beat my high score. now 52,000 PEOPLE. also, a miracle happened on Saturday, clarkie and i got into the highschool we had been hoping to get into, the one that 13 other mormon kids go to, and that's conveniently four and a half miles from our home. i can't wait. actual valentimes day was spent eating candy hearts with spanish messages on them, and cringing at the overdose of PDA going on in the hallways at school. Wednesday, i finished my last behind the wheel and proudly tackled all the one way roads of downtown. now it's just a matter of passing my drivers test in three months. i really need to work on my parking *gulp* we had school off today, and have monday off as well. today was spent trying to find a dress for the mormon dance tomorow because the one i ordered from Downeast failed miserably. i'm pretty content with the way everything is going right now, although i would be lying if i said i'm not counting down the days till we get to board a plane and fly down to utah for a week. of course, it would be nice if it would really warm up around here. last week it was subzero temperatures all week (highs of -17) it's been forty degrees all this week and over six inches of snow has melted.i've worn long sleeve shirts all week, basking in the warmth. it's nice to see grass in a few places. although, today with windchill it's back to the lovely zero degree norm. basically, that's what's has and is going on. i gnome you to death!

never grow up
With my sixteenth birthday just three and a half months away, i keep thinking about the future, i have alot of big decisions ahead of me in the next few years. it's crazy to think that in just two and a half years, i'll be off to college, all on my own. i can't even imagine ever being ready for that, i just want to stay here, spend time with my family, and never grow up. but at the same time, i'm at a point in my life where i get to plan my future, and make those decisions that will get me to where i want to be. where do i want to be? ten years from now i see myself married in the temple, and with a few kids. but as far as where do i want to be three years from now? i don't exactly know. honestly, if i could do anything, i'd head straight to the french culinary institute in new york, and see where that takes me. but that's $65,000 i surely don't have. why would i go there, when i could go to byu, and still major in culinary arts. it's not like i'm going to be a head chef at a five star restaurant in new york anyways. but i'm okay with that, i just don't want to settle for less and end up regretting it ten years down the road when i decide i want to open a bakery and don't have the proper training. then there is the other side of me, why not take a risk? if it's really what i love and i work hard enough, it will all pay off in the end. although, i would be plenty content majoring in english, becomming an english teacher, and writing books for the rest of my life. sometimes, i have a hard time thinking about all that stuff though. especially because i'm just so content with the way everything is in my life right now. i have great relationships with my parents and siblings, and i'm finally starting to make friends. plus, last semester i got an A- in MATH. yep. but it seems like i'm always looking to the future, even when i'm not trying to i'll find myself thinking about a trip to utah this summer, what i'll do with who, and how long i'll stay. just wishing that summer could come so i could go back. the other day someone asked me why i wanted to go back so bad if i didn't even like utah that much in the first place. i thought about that for awhile. aside from the fact that my best friend lives there, i have probably the awesomest family on the face of the plante there, and i lived there for seven years, there is also the other part of me that just wants to show all those people who thought that i couldn't do it, who pretended to be sad that we were leaving, and who were secretly relieved that we were leaving mormonville that i did it, i left and i'm comming back a completely different person. REALLY, a completely different person. people keep telling me how proud they are of me, how much of a change they've noticed from when we first arrived here eight months ago to now. it's taken me awhile though to fully grasp just how much i've changed. now that i have, i couldn't be happier. i couldn't be more grateful to be where i am today, to be surrounded by the people i'm surrounded by. to get to wake up every morning and go to early morning seminary, to head to school having felt the spirit for and hour, ready to take on the world...and any crazy teenage mormon questions that have sprung from their mormon knowledge-most of which comes from the mormon episode of south park Grrrreeeaaaatt. but i love it. more than anything. i love being different, i love knowing who i am. and even though i don't exactly know what i want the future to hold, or what big decisions i'm going to make in the next few years, i know that i have the gospel in my life, i have a supportive family who loves me, great friends, and instant communication with the one person who understands me most, the one person who knows exactly what i'm going through, through prayer.
so now we begin yet another week. i can't believe tomorow is the last day of january, it makes me happy and sad at the same time that things are moving this quickly. before i know it, sophmore year will be over, and i will be off on even more summer adventures. but for now, i'll take my slippers and blanket, try and stay warm in this -20* weather, and enjoy where i am now, being who i am.
